Paintings by Rebecca Campbell

Rebecca Campbell was born and raised in Salt Lake City in 1970, the youngest of seven children in a strict Mormon family. By age twelve, Campbell had begun to develop a critical eye, questioning the parameters of the church and the role it ascribed to her gender. This led to her departure from the church. Campbell did not bow to pressure to conform to the societal norms, but instead spent her teenage years developing her passion to make her art, which included sculpture and installation, as well as painting and drawing. Campbell left Utah to study at Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, Oregon, receiving her B.F.A. in 1994.

About her work, Rebecca Campbell says:
All of my work comes from a very personal place but I think it’s important to leave room for people to imagine their own stories too. When I paint someone I don’t think of it as a portrait. I think of it as a symbolic painting of “a girl”, or “a woman”. I think this creates openness in the work that allows it to transcend a specific time and place. I’m also interested in showing dreamlike states. For me dream states are symbolic of the inward reflection that makes all creative acts possible.

Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea.

Corinth Canal is a unique place where you can see the two seas at once, the Aegean and Ionian. idea of building a canal at this point there was already a long time: the project seriously engaged in such famous people as Alexander of Macedon, the Roman emperor Julius Caesar and Caligula and Nero in '67. The emperor began construction of a canal, arriving at the opening of his own works and removing the golden shovel first clods of earth.However, the sudden death of the Emperor in '69 interrupted work.As a result, the channel was finally handed over only in the XIX century, the French ordered the Greek state, while creating a wonderful landmark, which still attracts all the hiking trails. The length of the channel is 6343 m, width varies from 21 meters at the bottom to 25 feet at the water surface, the height of the water's edge to 90 m, length 6.3 km, depth - 8 pm The proportions make the channel look like a deep canyon, as in some places its slopes reach a height of 76 meters. However, the most memorable act which takes place during the movement through the channel of giant cruise ships. Tonnage ships can pass through it only to tow, very carefully.
